Air Source Heat Pump

An air source heat pump collects and utilises thermal energy from the outside air to heat the home and provide domestic hot water. It does this in the same way that a fridge extracts heat from the inside. It is capable of extracting heat from the air, even when the outside temperature is as low as -20C, it then converts this for use in a heating and hot water system. The heat generated is then used to warm water for the under floor heating system and domestic hot water. The under floor heating uses the benefit of radiant rising heat and low water flow temperatures to heat the floor surface, making it an even and more controllable heat, and a very efficient system indeed.

Solar Energy

The West House has been fitted with solar thermal collectors which are capable of supplying up to 70% of a average households hot water needs reducing expensive hot water bills. The tubes are up to 30% more effective than standard flat plates, and work from dawn until dusk throughout the year, even in cold, windy and humid conditions.

Insulation

Of course the West House has been designed to incorporate the highest standard of sound and thermal insulation, as well as in the walls and roof void, the windows that have been chosen provide extra levels of sound and heat insulation.

Lighting

Throughout the West House you will notice the inset spotlighting with LED lamps, these run at 3 watts, saving you electricity and money. They also provide a clear, bright light and don’t need warming up like most energy saving lighting systems.
